This was an image captured at a recent wedding. We rang the door bell to the bride's home, the bride's mother let us in and this beautiful little girl was staring right back at me. I was ready with my Canon 40D fitted with my 50mm F1.4 lens. This camera/lens combo is my second camera and is always on my shoulder ready to go through-out the day and into the evening. I had it set to aperture priority, AWB, and a high ISO because I never know what's going to happen those first moments on the job. This image is one of my favorites from the shoot. The look and feel, the beautiful complexion, the intense color of the eyes, and that innocent direct look back into the camera makes for a captivated image. I hope you enjoy it. Camera specs; Canon 40D fitted with 50mm F1.4 lens, F2.8 @ 1/250 second, ISO 1250. Enjoy! -David

What's your preference? - David
Great image! Thanks for sharing, but I don't want to choose. Both are super in their own right.
ReplyDeleteAlso thanks for the insight into blogging. I've just begun my first adventure into bloghood and you are part of the reason.
I continue to be amazed at all you accomplish; not only in blogging but also in training, both video and in person; now podcasting; and still have time to get behind a camera...especially for a man your age:)
But seriously, thanks.
I like the color image. Her blue eyes against the pale skin makes a wonderful study in contrast.
ReplyDeleteHowever, the reason for this post is to say thanks for the off-the-cuff remarks. Always carrying a camera ready to go when on the job is one of the distinctions between an experienced professional and a talented rookie. Most of us would have had to miss a few of these extraordinary photo (and sales) opportunities before we learned that lesson.
I would also like to thank you for all that you give us in your blogs.
ReplyDeleteBut... you have to go with the color shot. Those eyes, WOW, what a wonderful shot.
I'm usually a sucker for black and white, but I love that color shot.
ReplyDeleteTo me, this is a color picture. Thos blue eyes need to be shown in blue.
ReplyDeleteI usually am the first one to convert to black and white, but those blue eyes are killer!
ReplyDeleteColor version, no contest. Now if you were to do a b/w and keep the blue eyes and enhance the contrast of the rest of the image to help show off the DOF then we may have harder time choosing.
ReplyDeleteAs is the b/w is not as compelling as the original. Plus the b/w does not show off the DOF like the color version does, which also makes the b/w version look less vibrant and a bit dull. Not to be overly critical, who am I to critique you, but you did ask for our preference on this.
I find the color to be MUCH more powerful. Her eyes just blow me away! Also the soft focus nature of the image makes the black and white seem a little duller to me. Thats my 2 cents!

I like B&W alot but I choose color this time
ReplyDeleteThis is a stunning photo I just love the colour version.
ReplyDeleteCan I add my thanks for all the things you share with us on a daily basis, sincere thanks. John
I have to say that the color is incredible! The image is still very good in black and white but I think it loses something compared to the color.
ReplyDeleteColor shot.. no question. Amazing shot. I would love to see that blown up.
ReplyDeleteJan
The black and white wins!
ReplyDeleteJust kidding, I just wanted to throw a ringer in here. The color one totally takes the cake on this one! :) GREAT shot and DoF. As usual. :)
Without a doubt, one of my favorite pictures you've ever posted! Totally captivated by it. Thanks for inspiring so many of us!
ReplyDeleteBaby blues melt a heart every time!
ReplyDeleteI prefer the color for two reasons: I like the closeness of the color photo and the colors are too perfect to convert to black and white. Beautiful image!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for all the wonderful info you give us each day at your blog. I have learned a lot from you! Now I'm off to watch your latest video tutorial...
