"Hobbit's Trail"
© David A. Ziser
I love the colors and simplicity of this image. It was made while on a trip to Northern Scotland last November. LaDawn and I were taking a little hike around the beautiful Craigellachie Nature Reserve at the base of the Cairngorm mountains in Aviemore, just south on Inverness, Scotland. Needless to say, we were well into fall season - not many leaves on the trees at this point. On top of that, we were just south of the Artic Circle - I make this point because the foliage and fauna were just beautiful to behold on this brisk day. This image is of a stand of trees that seem to just disappear into the forest. I increased the saturation of the scene a bit in Photoshop to give the image more of the fantasy feeling the title implied. Camera Specs - Canon 5D fitted with 24-105mm IS lens at 24mm; F 5.6 @ 1/6 second at ISO 400. Enjoy! --David

  1. Hi David,
Not to quibble over distances here, but saying Inverness, Scotland is "just south of the Arctic Circle" is like saying Florida is "just south of Cincinnati" (roughly the same distance). It's actually a heck of a long sail from Inverness to the Arctic Circle. My apologies if I missed the tongue in cheek there. :-)
    Cheers,

  2. Hi David,
Just to agree with Trev J's comment
    Craigellachie is 57° 29′ 17″ North
    the Arctic Circle is 66° 33′ 39″
    That's a whopping 9° 4′ 22″ of a difference by my calclulations.
