Here is an image I made a number of years ago as I was just switching to Canon cameras.  I think you will be surprised with the camera specs listed with this image.  The image was made, with special permission, in the organ loft at St. Mary's Cathedral in Covington, Kentucky.  I photograph the occasional wedding at this beautiful location so it was a real treat to be able to use the organ loft for this shot. I had just gotten my brand new Canon 20D and owned only one lens for it at the time, the 17-85mm IS lens.  Hey, that was enough for me to get this great shot.  I illuminated the bride from camera left with my assistant leaning out from the organ loft holding my Quantum flash and shooting through a translucent umbrella to soften the light on the bride.  I also slowed the the shutter speed down in order to pick up some of the ambient light.  The balance of the ambient with the flash resulted in a very dramatic portrait of our bride. I then used Photoshop to straighten up the organ pipes by using the “Crop” tool with “Perspective” checked.  Camera specs; Canon 20D fitted with 17-85mm IS lens at 53mm, F5.6 @1/25 second, ISO 800.

Enjoy!  -David
