I made this image while on a short hike though the desert near Las Vegas. The sun was bright and at a fairly high position in the sky therefore the rock in the foreground was illuminated with mostly non-directional light. Nevertheless the strata in the sandstone was what interested me. The most intriguing part of the image though was the darker rock looming large in the background almost standing guard over the scene. Camera specs; Canon 40D fitted with 70-300mm DO IS lens at 160mm, F11 @ 1/800 second, ISO 400. Enjoy! -David
