One more image from last week's class. This image was made at the Drees Pavilion overlooking the Ohio River and Cincinnati, Ohio. It is one of the best views of the city. This image was made mid-day so we were challenged with getting the direction of light on our subject in the bright afternoon light. I used my Quantum flash at a fairly close range, fast shutter speed, and smaller aperture to pull it off darkening the sky and city in the background. The rather plain sky was spruced up with NIK's Viveza and the clouds were added with some free "cloud brushes" downloaded from the net. Camera specs; Canon 40D fitted with the Tamron 28-300 VC lens at 129mm, F11 @ 1/320 second, ISO 200. Enjoy! -David

Nice photo. Did you use the flash at 1/2 or full power? I guess you couldn't have used anything lower, as you couldn't overpower daylight. Right? :) And you got directional light by having the flash off-shoe, either wirelessly or by cable.
ReplyDeleteDid you use any gel?
Thanks for the insights!
David how are you triggering your flash, to shoot at 1/320 w/ the quantum
