"Hollywood Bridal"

"Hollywood Bridal"
© David A. Ziser

This image was made during yesterday's shoot at the Netherland Hilton Hotel. The hotel itself has a real Art Deco look about it in it's design and architecture. This image lends itself to that same look and feel. I used a high intensity flash light to illuminate the bride which placed most of the illumination right on her face in much the same manner as George Hurrell did in the 30's and 40's with the Hollywood stars - hence the title. I then added a fair amount of Gaussian blur to the image, punching through where I thought best to finish the portrait for the Hurrell look. Camera specs; Canon 40D fitted with Tamron 28-300mm VC lens at 119mm, F5.6 @ 1/10 second - hand held, ISO 800. Enjoy! -David

  1. Another great day of shooting and trying out "Camp Z" techniques!!

It was AWESOME to work on location with our group, as you coached, trying to achieve beautiful directional lighting.

Our group, initially rained out in the evening, but still energized from yesterday and today's sessions, got über-creative at Montgomery's Rib Haus via using napkins, tablecloths and our waitress to achieve amazing lighting.

We later moved the operation outside as Carlos creatively captivated the headlights for more intense portraits. Think American Apparel ads meets Jurgen Teller meets...well, let's just say we may have an upcoming technique Tuesday for you.

  2. Sounds like you guys are having a BLAST! Wish I could be there. Nice to see you are using Sarah again as your model. So great to work with. Good luck with the rest of the week - your class has NO idea what they have in store!

  3. I see you made this image with the 28-300mm lens. How is it preforming against your Canon glass? Will we see you give us a pro's and con's review later?
