"Mysterious Lake Michigan"

Mysterious Lake Michigan

I captured this image yesterday as we were heading south out of the upper reaches of Sleeping Bear National Seashore.  We were told that just last year the area was named as one of the most beautiful drives in the country.  The sights were amazing to behold.

Pulling off at one of the popular overlooks, it was just amazing to view out over one of the most amazing vistas we had ever seen.  We were standing on one of the highest sand dunes on the Lake Michigan coast looking out onto this vast sea of water.  My first impression was that what I was seeing looked even larger than the ocean.  The breath and the depth of the vista was absolutely amazing!!!

I noticed small land masses in the distance punctuated with variations in the water’s surface that when I zoomed into them cropping off the vastness of the water, these land masses took on a very mysterious look.  The long zoom of the lens and the variations in the atmosphere played optical tricks on the scene that, for me, gave it a very cool look.  This is one of my favorite views from yesterday's shoot.

Camera specs:  Canon 5D Mark III fitted with 28-300mm lens at 300mm, F14 @ 1/1600 second, ISO 500.  Enjoy!  -David
