"Ahhhh, Enjoying The Lap Of Luxury"

This is another fun image I made at this past Saturday's wedding in Detroit, Michigan. One of my favorite photographs to take is that of the bride and groom among the beautiful surrounds of the ballroom.
The ballroom on this special evening looked beautiful. We had about 8 minutes before the rest of the guests were to enter the room and I asked the couple if I could get a quick photograph. They gladly obliged.
Lighting was pretty simple. I had my assistant use my Z-Ray to light the couple. The camera was set to “Tungsten” color balance to balance with the color temperature of the Z-Ray. That also helped preserve the proper color of the ambient light throughout the reception location. I'm shooting very quickly to get these images so I use a higher ISO thus allowing me to handhold the camera.
This technique is much more efficient than taking the time to set up the tripod. Seconds count when shooting weddings and I try to make every second count.
Camera specs; Canon 7D fitted with 18-200mm IS lens at 18mm, F3.5 @ 1/40 second, ISO 1600. Enjoy! -David
Hi David,
ReplyDeleteI really enjoy your blog. A question on this post. I notice you used your 18-200 for the shot, this intrigued me. I have this lens as well but really didn't consider using it for an event, mostly personal travel stuff. Do you use it often and have you found limitations other than f/stop? Why would you use this lens over your more expensive lenses?
Anyway, great post and great work.
